New car sales in Britain have been booming this year. As of the end of July, 1,325,851 vehicles have been bought by motorists, while September heralds another rush with the start of the 63' plate.
At the same point in 2012 – which was a solid year for car sales compared to other countries across Europe - 1,201,564 new motors were shifted, or 10.3 per cent fewer.As a result, the Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders significantly raised its forecast for 2013 new car registrations, predicting sales will reach 2.216million units - 8.4 per cent ahead of 2012.

According to SSMT figures for 2012, which shows the total number of vehicles sold, there were 70 Aston Martin Cygnet's sold last year. Billed as a luxury city car to rival the Fiat 500 or Smart car, Aston Martin's baby motor costs £30,995.Alongside this, the Morgan Aero 8 which costs just shy of £100,000 sold nine while 83 motorists bought the luxury Rolls Royce Phantom, which start at a whopping £300,000.
Electric car the Nissan Leaf, which start from £15,990, sold 699 models, despite being heavily advertised. The unpopular Nissan Cube sold just one new model in the UK last year - it was axed in 2011 after less than a year on sale.
