It was all about the men at London’s
Royal Opera House, but Laura Carmichael made a good attempt at stealing
their thunder when she hit the red carpet in a revealing trouser suit.
The 27-year-old actress – best known for her role as Lady Edith Crawley in Downton Abbey – was attending the annual GQ Men of the year Awards on Tuesday evening, where designer frocks were doing a good job of outshining tuxedos on the red carpet as stars filed into the event.
Arriving in high-spirits, Laura had clearly opted for a happy medium by sporting a stylish black blazer and matching skinny trousers from The Kooples.
But while the elegant outfit blended nicely with the array of distinctive outfits on show, it was Laura’s porcelain skin that caught the eye as she posed for photos before proceedings got underway.
Indeed, the open chest of her blazer and what appeared to be a very low cut top beneath revealed a generous portion of her chest.
The actress accessorized tastefully by opting to wear two simple gold chains, while a black clutch-bag and strappy black heels completed the outfit with a tasteful flourish.
Laura was on hand to see her old
Downton Abbey co-star Dan Stevens collect the Most Stylish Award from
presenter Jourdan Dunn on a night that also saw Noel Gallagher win the
Icon Award, Russell Brand win the Oracle Award and Piers Morgan the
award for TV personality of the year.
Speaking afterwards, Stevens – who quit Downton for pastures new at the end of the last series – admitted that winning the gong might work against him in the future.
‘I dread to think how my daughter is going to use this against me in 10 years!’ he joked while accepting his award.
The 30-year-old actor also joked about his drastic weight losscafter taking the stage sporting a distinctly lighter hair-colour.
He said: ‘My wife thinks this is hilarious. She reminded me when we first met I wore jeans we could both fit into.’
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show in June, he admitted to losing two stone since the turn of the year.
