How to Dress like EMO..?

The EMO look is easy to pull off if you understand what makes it tick. Remember that “emo” is short for "emotion," because emo music pours out intense feelings to fans. Although emo guys are sensitive and emotional, their punk rock roots shine through in their anti-conformist attitudes and fashions, from their shoes to their hair.

Pick old school kicks : For a great emo look for guys, trade in your typical tennis shoes for Vans-style skater kicks or shoes with checkers and plaid which flaunt your refusal to conform to office loafers and tennis shoes. Emo guys adore plain black Converse-style shoes, too, especially since they match so much of the emo wardrobe.

Squeeze into skinny jeans : Remember, emo has roots in punk, so a big part of dressing emo for guys relies on referencing old-school punk fashion. That means black skinny jeans. If you prefer a splash of color, you can get away with rainbow-dyed denim, too. Snag your pair in a vintage shop or thrift store to score emo street cred.

Slip on a band tee : Emo fans can spot a faker a mile away, and if you don't know the bands, you might as well wear a "phony" sticker on your forehead. Promote your favorite emo bands by dressing in form-fitting band T-shirts. Avoid baggy or oversized tees at all costs, as emo guys prefer their shirts to fit small.

Get a hoodie : All that intense emotion can leave you longing for a cozy, protective safety blanket. Don a hoodie to wear over your emo concert tees. Choose black to match your skinny jeans or go for a pop of color.

Get pinned : If you really want to win emo street cred, pin your favorite emo band pins on your messenger bag or hoodie.

Accessorize : Spiked bracelets and belts show you are a member of the emo tribe. Try daring piercings, such as though the lip or nose to flaunt your anti-conformist attitude and willingness to express yourself.

Play with your hair : An emo hairstyle shows your willingness to express yourself. Try cutting it short in the back and longer in the front with side-swept bangs. Spikes fit the emo mood, too. Try fun, bright hair dyes in any shade of the rainbow. Emo hairstyles are a great way to play around with your look. They allow you to have fun, be creative and unique. An Emo hairstyle treats your hair like a canvas; you have artistic freedom to express who you are, to show off your personal style almost like an art form. The beauty of an Emo hairstyle is how un-uniformed it is; they are asymmetrical and rather choppy. A common generalization for emo hair is short in the back and long in the front.

Try out some makeup : If you ever wanted to break into your girlfriend's makeup bag, now is your chance. Emo guys often sport black eyeliner to enhance their brooding mood and further show their sensitive side.

Emo Clothing : The term "slim fitted" is key to dressing emo. By almost all current definitions, Emo clothing is characterised by tight emo jeans (aka drainpipes or skinnies) on males and females alike. Males also sometimes where girls jeans as they "fit better". Dresses and skirts can be worn by girls if properly paired with converse and leg warmers.Tight emo t shirts which often bear the name of rock bands such as "As I Lay Dying" or "Cute is What We Aim For" with common iconic symbols of emo such as the broken heart, the bleeding heart, stars and the every so popular skull. Vintage shirts are also still popular including vintage-looking printed tees with random things like robots, dinosaurs, or any random icon that makes people think. Originality (at least the illusion of originality) is the key.A dark coloured zip-hoodie is a classic must have. Like the shirts, the emo hoodies these can be plain or covered in strange ghoulish and self deprecating designs with bleeding hearts, ribs, etc.Black is probably the most popular colour for all the emo clothing, but certainly not the only colour. Emo's generally wear less black than Goths for example.

How to Dress Gothic..!-!

There are many different opinions on dressing Goth, from true Goths, non-Goths and wannabe Goths. Of course the subculture is not just about the fashion, but its a big part of the Goth expression. This guide has collaborated many articles on dressing Goth, taking all views into account, adding some real-life experience with Goths and you get this: The guide to dressing Goth for men!
Slowly ease into it. Don't go full-on Goth because yes, you will look like a poser. Add pieces here and there (you probably already own quite a few that you didn't know about)

  • Tops : The basic top is of course the t-shirt. Black t-shirts with a variety of band logo's. You can print your own tee's on the internet, so be original! Use band images, dark anime, horror pictures, pick something you like. Make sure they fit well though, you are not a baggy Mall Goth!
  • Tops again : Apart from t-shirts, try on a mesh t-shirt. If you haven’t got the body to wear it on its own, wear it over one of your t-shirts. Also try on black dress shirts, and Victorian period shirts in black, white, grey, or dark jewel tones. Experiment and layer. Long-sleeve black tees and jumpers are a good option.
  • Bottoms : Black jeans are the standard it seems. If you can, wear them tight (NOT uber-skinny) just regular skinny. Worn jeans are better than new ones. Tripp pants are the way to go. They may be expensive but in the end, they are worth it Apart from jeans, try leather pants. Not for you? Wear trousers. In the summer wear black shorts or 3/4.
  • Shoes : Boots, boots and more boots! Boots are the staple footwear of Goth. Doc Marten boots are the original favorites but you are by no means limited to this. Also wear black pointed Chelsea boots, with lots of buckles, black converse high-tops are a good mainstream choice if you don't feel like slugging your boots on.
  • Coats : Pinstripe blazers, leather biker jackets, wool overcoats, dogtooth coats. Get a selection for all weathers! Might be a good idea to purchase a black zip-thru hoody (plain or with suitable Goth image) to layer under a jacket for colder weather. Please don't buy a leather trenchcoat. You've seen the types that wear them. Wannabe Goths, weirdo's, and Nazi's. OK, so a German WWII-era officer jacket is a classic item to wear with Goth clothing, but a Gestapo leather trench is bordering on cliché. Leave them to the mallgoths.

Accessorize : Get a decent belt. Black leather with metal studs, dark imagery, a cool buckle. Fishnet gloves. Rings, necklaces, pendants etc. Silver is the jewelry colour of choice, looks best with black. As for makeup, light-coloured foundation and black eyeliner are standard. DON'T buy white face paint, it looks fake. Buy a pale or white foundation or face powder. And don't overdo the eyeliner. Less is more. You can do your lips and nails, but for a casual everyday look, don't. You are aiming to look darkly ascetic, not shock value. Again, leave that to mallgoths.Use a handkerchief. They are so much more romantic goth style.

Pick a Hair style : It's ok not to dye your hair, but it may look better. Black is the standard choice, as you can do anything with it. You can also try pale platinum blonde or a really dark red. You can try highlighting or lowlighting your black hair with blue or green or pink or purple. Don't overdo it, though. Style it how you want. Grow your hair out so you have more options. Backcomb it, mess it up, spike it, straighten it. Use the internet to help, or be original!

Own the Attitude : Of course, now that you are dressed the part, you need to act it. You don't have to be depressed! But find new things to talk about. Poetry, the romantic movement, pre-Raphaelite art, vintage horror movies, and of course music.

Listen to the Music : Wearing a slipknot t-shirt is not going to gain the respect of elder Goths. Start listening to proper Goth music from the 80's. Bauhaus, Joy Division,45 Grave,Siouxie and the Banshees, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy. Find them out and listen. Don't limit yourself to just Goth rock music. Goths also enjoy gloomy post-punk, Horror punk and neo-psychedelia (Echo & the Bunnymen, Jesus & Mary Chain) New Wave/Synthpop and New Romantic, Shoegazing/dream pop, Industrial, ambient. Explore darker bands that have some refinement (Not Manson for god's sake)

Learn as much as you can : Get a solid background in Goth subculture by doing some research. Also, please be honest: if you don't know something that is related to the Goth subculture, do not pretend that you do. Spreading untruths and reinforcing stereotypes damages the entire Goth community. Admitting that you don’t know something is nothing to feel embarrassed about; remember that not even Elder Goths know everything.

Start reading Dark Novels : Many goths love to read. (In fact, Goth subculture got its name from a literary genre in the late 1800's, known as "Gothic" -- which in turn got its name from an architecture style seen in Medieval churches -- which in turn got its name from an ancient Germanic tribe.) Suggested authors include Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe, Lord Byron, Mary Shelley, Nathaniel Hawthorne, William Faulkner, Jack Kerouac, Christopher Marlowe, Anne Rice, William S. Burroughs,Oscar Wilde, Storm Constantine, Ellen Schreiber, Melissa Marr and The Brontë sisters. But you can read some books that are from different authors and you don't have to read books from authors that are suggested here.

Have fun Be Gothic : Don’t force yourself to follow these guides so strictly that you forget about enjoying yourself. Remember that true Goths don’t live by rules; they act as they wish and turn out to be Goths. Develop your own style naturally by being influenced by what you read and feel, not by following "How to be" lists. If you have a genuine interest in a scene, you will naturally be influenced as you get into the subculture. In other words, do what makes you happy. For example if you love listening to rap, then go ahead and listen to rap; Goths who think less of you for it aren’t being true to the culture’s spirit of individuality. Goth is a vast subculture and everyone in it is as unique as a snowflake. Be you -- and if that means you gel with Goth subculture, so be it!
